In the
spring, our chapter will search for the Penny Pines project
marker in the Manistee National Forest located west of
Cadillac, Michigan. Money to plant pine trees (each tree costing
about a penny each at the time) was donated by the Marie
Therese Cadillac Chapter in the 1950s as a NSDAR project. These
Penny Pine projects were sponsored by DAR chapters in almost
every state. Trees were planted by the Civilian Conservation
Corps (CCC).
