 Welcome

The Marie Therese Cadillac Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), welcomes you to our website.

Our chapter is located in Cadillac, Michigan. It was founded in 1908, then disbanded in 1951, and reorganized on February 1, 1971. The namesake is Marie Therese Guyon Cadillac (1671-1740). She was a woman of courage and determination, a pioneer with great business acumen and outstanding devotion to humanity, also known as the First Lady of Detroit. She was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame in 1994.

Meetings

Meetings are held at the local Senior Center in Cadillac on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm, with the occasional Saturday meeting at 1:00 pm. If you’re interested in more information about the Marie Therese Cadillac Chapter, please contact our Chapter Regent.

About the Chapter

The Marie Therese Cadillac Chapter is a small chapter with big national pride.  Some of the programs we have sponsored include:

  • Financial support to designated schools & charities

  • DAR Good Citizens essay contest for high school seniors that are recommended by their counselors.

  • Our chapter participated in a DAR of Michigan project to collect personal items for the military. All Michigan chapter donations were forwarded to the Job Winslow Chapter NSDAR in Traverse City, Michigan where items were sorted and distributed to Michigan female military.

  • Christmas boxes to local veterans every year

  • Educational books to local school libraries every year

  • Memorial service for veterans during Veterans Day week

  • Educational displays for Constitution Week

  • Displays honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War and 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor

  • Display honoring POW-MIA week

  • Member of the Vietnam War Commemoration

  • Display honoring 100th Anniversary of the creation of the National Parks System

  • Participated in a DAR of Michigan project “Let Your Heartlight Shine.” We invited the community to display white lights in windows during the holidays to honor active and veteran military.

Ideas for future and continuing projects are in progress.

  • A banner and float for our DAR chapter

  • In the spring, our chapter will search for the Penny Pines project marker in the Manistee National Forest located west of Cadillac, Michigan.  Money to plant pine trees (each tree costing about a penny each at the time) was donated by the Marie Therese Cadillac Chapter in the 1950s as a NSDAR project.  These Penny Pine projects were sponsored by DAR chapters in almost every state. Trees were planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

  • Local World War I marker clean up
